Welcome to biker's paradise

Bormio: Where Cycling is Legend. Whether you're a lone wolf, a group of friends looking for epic challenges, or a family ready to explore, Alta Valtellina awaits you for true cycling adventures.

Enduro MTB and gravel riding are wild at heart: the Stelvio Natural Trail offers natural, high-altitude trails in a setting unlike any other in the Alps. Gravel here means imposing climbs and scenic military roads in a wild setting. Perfect for your gravel bike or for an enduro ride that will make you feel at one with the pristine nature of the Stelvio National Park.

For gravity MTB, there's the Bormio Bike Park: technical descents, trails designed for speed and physical effort, suitable for expert bikers who want to forget the view for a moment and focus on the descent.

And then there are them, the giants. Challenge yourself on the climbs that have written the history of world cycling: Stelvio, Gavia, and Mortirolo. But don't stop there: explore the area's lesser-known climbs, true hidden gems just waiting to be discovered.

Road Bike

Experience a climb as if you were wearing the blue jersey on a racing bike

Between Alpine passes and steep climbs, road cycling in Bormio means testing yourself on challenging gradients and elevation changes, such as those of the Stelvio, Gavia, and Mortirolo Passes. If you like, you can add to your list of achievements the effort of other climbs to the well-deserved and coveted iconic sites of Alta Valtellina.
It's no coincidence that the Cima Coppi of the Giro d'Italia has been assigned to one of our passes several times. Take advantage of the Enjoy Stelvio Valtellina project, the summer days when the passes are closed to traffic, or initiatives like the Stelvio Epic Rides or the GF Stelvio Santini, pedaling in the footsteps of the greatest cyclists.

There are so many varied itineraries for you, your family, and your friends that you could organize an entire cycling holiday at your own pace to discover our region. Check out our Bormio webcam and take advantage of the Alpine passes' opening season to come and ride with us.

Enduro

Natural enduro between 1000 and 3000 meters

In Alta Valtellina you'll find one of the most interesting areas for high-altitude enduro, in the heart of the Stelvio National Park.

The trails unfold along natural paths with technical sections, long downhill singletrack, ridge connections, and exposed sections that require attention and precision. All this is set against a stunning alpine and glacial backdrop. Over 100 km of cycleable trails, many of which are shared with hikers, where respectful and mindful riding is essential. The Signature Trails are the essence of the Stelvio Natural Trail and are marked, maintained, and made even more engaging and challenging for bikers.

The difficulty level is medium-high, suitable for intermediate to expert riders who know their limits and are able to choose the most suitable lines. Not all lines are extreme; there are also more accessible ones, but good judgment is always required. You will be rewarded with an immersive experience in Alpine nature unlike any other.

E-Bike

Discover Bormio on an e-bike

In Alta Valtellina, the e-bike isn't just a way to "do less work," but a tool for expanding access to the mountains, even on technical terrain.

With a full-suspension e-MTB, you can tackle long alpine tours or explore moderate singletrack through forests and mountain pastures. The options are wide and suitable for all levels, but planning, respect for shared trails, and managing your autonomy are always required. For fans of long, leisurely rides, the route from Lake Como to Bormio along the Sentiero Valtellina is also interesting. This route, over 100 km long, is mostly on cycle paths and is suitable for gravel and e-bike trekking.

Downhill

Difference in altitude served by lifts, DH tracks to ride

The Bormio Bike Park offers 7 downhill lines served by three lifts: the Bormio 2000 cable car, the Cimino chairlift, and the Bormio 3000 cable car, for a total vertical drop of 1,800 meters.

The trails offer a good mix of flow, jumps, natural rock gardens, and man-made sections, with a jump area and a north shore zone designed for working on technique and control.
There's also a DH school for those who want to start or improve safely, with qualified instructors.

Bormio's summer facilities and bike park will be closed during summer 2025.

Gravel

Gravel alpine style

The Alta Valtellina area is crisscrossed by a network of dirt roads, mule tracks, and mountain roads that are perfect for gravel biking.

Many of these routes follow the ancient transit routes of the Magnificent Land, such as the Salt and Wine Road, which connected Bormio to the markets beyond the Alps. The setting is Alpine, so the gradients aren't always gentle: you'll need to be strong, or at least have agile gears. But you'll be rewarded with sweeping views and a sense of wilderness unmatched in the Alps.
The Cancano Lakes, for example, can be reached via a dirt road from Premadio, via a steady, panoramic climb that gives access to a vast, wild area between Italy and Switzerland, where you can pedal in solitude among majestic peaks and lakes, "Canada style."
